Today marks the 48th Birthday of the
LASER(Thats
LIGHT AMPLIFICATION BY STIMULATED EMISSION OF RADIATION)...Yeah you heard that right!!From those fancy pointers to the most advanced LASER guided Missile Systems or "SMART" bombs , all of them would not have existed had it not been for the LASER.And
Google has payed tribute to the inventor of the first LASER Theodore Maiman by having their Doodle (the Google logo) changed to look all lasery...(Don't know if that word even exists!!).Have a look at it.Nice huh??
It was on this day that the first working laser was demonstrated by
Prof. Theodore Maimin at Hughes Research Labs.Today LASERs have become a multi-billion dollar industry finding use in CD and DVD players, in which the LASER (a few millimeters in size) scans the surface of the disc. They are sure a lot of help during those boooooring lectures in college!!
Also LASERs find application in fields ranging from Industry level for cutting steel, military for range finding, medicines and even cosmetics (Bet you're snickering right now).

That's him........A great man who made a discovery that changed the world!!
